EL COTILLO

The town is situated at the north-western part of the island of Fuerteventura, and belongs to the municipality of La Oliva. Pronounced as “El Coateeyo”, the town of El Cotillo is known as a small, rustic fishing town which is dedicated to the “Virgin De Buen Viaje”, and these words can be seen painted in on the cliffs of the old harbor. The town is known to be a peaceful place and it offers a wide selection of restaurants, bars as well as shops and accommodation for tourists who often tour the said town.

El Cotillo is also becoming the newest tourist spot in the entire island of Fuerteventura, and this is due to the magnificent beaches as well as the lagoons that is located at the southern part of the town. Located at the left side, are the cliffs, and from there are a number of footpaths which leads to the Playa Del Castillo, which is considered to be one of the most spectacular beaches in the entire region.

Located at the southern tip of the town are the beaches of the Playa Del Ajibe De La Cueva and the Playa Del Aguila, which are both known as “wild and remote”. The town is also considered as the surfing and windsurfing Mecca of the island.

During winter, however, the waters in this town is known to be dangerous since the swell is known to break allover El Cotillo’s harbor wall which causes small fishing boats to sink. El Cotillo features several beaches which are mostly known to be nudist beaches. From the said town, tourists may have the option of visiting a remarkable church, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora Del Buen Viage, which, as previously mentioned, was whom the town was dedicated to, as well as a tower fortress called “El Tostón”, which dated back from the 17th century. Besides the town of Corralejo, Besides the town of Corralejo, this fishing town offers one of the most seafearing mages of the island of Fuerteventura, and tourists have the option of trying the island’s fish at the port.
