Caleta de Fuste Fuerteventura Canary canarias islands
CALETA DE FUSTE
Caleta De Fuste, also referred to as “Costa Caleta”, is located in the middle of the eastern coast of the island of Fuerteventura, approximately 6 km south of the airport. The town of Caleta de Fuste is also known as one of the major tourist destinations in the island.
The town of Caleta De Fuste known to possess various names such as Caleta, El Castillo (due to the 17th century fortification), and most recently the name, “Costa Caleta”. The town’s name apparently leads to some confusion, especially to some tourists, believing that one particular name of Caleta De Fuste is a different location from the other name.
Similar to Corralejo, rapid adjustments are occurring at the town of Caleta De Fuste, with a lot of establishments being built, everywhere in order to cope with the large amounts of tourists that travel towards the town of Caleta De Fuste each and every year.
Costa Caleta bears a long main street which is composed of low-rise buildings wherein the main bars and restaurants are mostly concentrated. Further, there are a lot of quiet, tree-lined streets and one of those streets lead towards the man-made beach which is set against a back-drop of hills and several apartments.
The island also features countless hotels, shops, boutiques, bars, cafes, and restaurants which are situated on or just near the beaches. The district is centered on a castle in the main harbor, which was constructed as a martello tower by Claudio De Lisne, a military engineer during the year 1743.
The town of Caleta De Fuste does not really possess the typical ambiance of an old town. This was due to the fact that the town was purposely built for merely being a holiday recreational getaway. It was created around the original cove, since this provides a safe, as well as a protected environment which is ideal for beach activities. The word “Caleta” is Spanish for cove and “Fuste” a word that is associated to a fishing boat.
Caleta De Fuste is an ideal destination which chooses no particular month. The town is a year-round holiday tourist spot which provides hot summers and warm winters. Tourists who particularly long for the winter sun can need not to look any further than the Canary Islands where the temperature lies in the low twenties.
Tourist who often bring their children with them need not to worry, since a well-known children attraction, the Oasis De Los Camillos Zoo, located at the fishing village of La Lajita allows them to ride camels and horses, and also see various animals, such as parrots which performs, along with many other animals.
