Valverde is known to be the capital of the island of El Hierro, and the only known capital in Canary Islands which is not apparently situated at the coast, but in an upland, located at approximately 600-700 m above sea level.

The village is additionally composed of sheer and narrows streets along with whitewashed houses with quintessential architecture and lavish gardens.

Three neighborhoods from the capital known as the “Tesine”, “La Calle” and “El Calbo”. The church of Santa Maria Maria De La Concepción which dates back from the 18th century bears the carving of the Virgin. It contains a Cristo De La Column, a Genoese sculpture of great artistic interest. Located directly towards the church is the City Hall, known to be a traditional architecture of the Canary Islands. The island of El Hierro’s capital is known to be the gateway towards the rich countryside around it. Situated in the northern part of the island, “Monacal” bears privileged vegetation and two natural swimming pools located on the coast. Next to those are the “Pozo e Las Calcosas’, an old yet exquisite settlement formed by stone houses with straw rooves.

The village of Valverde is known to have four basic economical pillars which includes: Livestock, Fruit Farming, Fishing and Tourism. These are carefully monitored and promoted by the local government.

Another interesting place in the village of Valverde is the handicraft center wherein tourists can view extraordinary exhibitions or traditional pottery which were made by the majority of the local villagers of Valverde, which can also be purchased after the exhibit is finished.

The said village is presently promoting their rural and ecological tourism for those nature lover individuals, as well as those who love adventure and sports.
