Ecija Seville sevilla andalucia
ECIJA - SEVILLE
Known as the “frying pan of Andalusia” as a result of the town’s very hot temperature, it is situated in the Campiña district within Seville and Cordoba, along the Genil river. The beautiful “City of towers” appears in the middle of a landscape of fertile lands used to cultivate cereals, herbaceous crops and olives. Ecija is located in the Andalusian countryside, nearly 85 km at the eastern part of the city of Sevile. As documented in the year’s 2009 census, the town of Ecija has a population of nearly 40,400 inhabitants, which made it fifth of the most populated towns in the city. The town of Ecija extends up to approximately 978.73 km2 being the largest in the city of Seville, and has a density of 41.28 inhabitants per km2 and is located nearly 125 meters above sea level.
Ecija’s temperature once reached up to an alarming 52° centigrade, and this was the reason as to why the town of Ecija is now known as “La Sartén De Andalusia” or “frying pan of Andalusia”, which is in fact not a exaggeration of the town’s temperature. Ecija is the home of countless remarkable baroque churches, each towers glimmer with brightly colored tiles which can be seen from a great distance. Moreover, there were magnificent houses situated in the town of Ecija which were built back in the 18th century, when the local nobility brought homes in the town. A lot of these mansions are particularly unique for their elaborate architecture presenting fascinating shapes and patterns. Sadly, a major earthquake that occurred during the year 1757 did a substantial damage to countless buildings, but still, the churches were restored, at a significant cost.
There are a lot of places and magnificent landmarks to visit in the town of Ecija, and this includes the Roman mosaic, situated at the city council, while two of the most impressive towers are the Santa Maria church and the Iglesia De San Juan Bautista. Another significant landmark is the tourist office, which is apparently located at a former palace with a mythical portal in varying tints of marble. Another is the Museo Historico Municipal, has an excellent collection of artifacts, combined with a tranquil setting of palms and patios. The Palacio De Peñaflor, situated on Calle Catellar, is also one of the town of Ecija’s fascinating monuments. With the monument’s curved facade, the entire place is embellished with frescos and flamboyant baroque portal. Located nearby s the San Gil Gothic-Mudéjar church, which is definitely worth a camera shot or two. These are just a number of the beautiful places surrounding the town of Ecija. There are a lot more further places and it is clear that even the hottest place all throughout Andalusia, there lies the striking and picturesque views of Ecija.
