The town of Torremolinos extends along the strip of coast which runs from the mouth of the River Guadalhorce to the Benalmadena and, inland, as far as the slopes of the Sierra De Mijas.
The early documented reports regarding the town of Torremolinos dated back since the year 1489, and this was the time when the Catholic Monarchs decided to increase the population of a region known as the “Torres De Pimentel”. After a couple of years, during the year 1502, the town was placed under the territory of the Málaga capital. This coastal enclave constructed some castles and watchtowers to guard itself from attack.
The most significant change that the town of Torremolinos have experienced transpired during the second half of the 20th century, when the fishing town discovered the huge tourist potential of its extensive coastline and mild climate. The town of Torremolinos has since turned into one of the main centers for tempting tourists on the Costa Del Sol, as a result of best tourist facilities and the quality of its infrastructure.
The beaches Bajondillo, Carihuela, Los Álamos or Playamar are merely a couple of the splendid beaches to grace this coastline where you will discover hotel complexes, housing developments, and even a Conference Center which hosts important international meetings.
The Torremolinos provides numerous chances, from swimming and soaking up the sun at almost any time of year, to playing all kinds of sports, including golf, not forgetting the countless restaurants in which you can try the local “pescalto” frito (fried fish).
