MARBELLA
Marbella is a town situated in the city of Málaga, located in Andalusia, southern Spain, by the Mediterranean, under La Concha mountain. During the year 2010, the total number of their inhabitants reaches up to approximately 135,000, and their inhabitants are referred to as “Marbellíes” The town of Marbella extends up to nearly 116 Km2, and is located at approximately 25 m above sea level. Marbella’s distance from its capital measures up to 58 km.
Marbella and the neighboring marina, known as the Puerto Banús, are valuable resorts of the Costa Del Sol. The town is well-know for being a playground for the rich and famous. Marbella is famous for being a high-class destination for the rich vacationeers from Northern Europe, as well as with the well-heeled from the UK, Ireland, Germany and the US.
The town of Marbella, according to the census is the second most populated town in the city of Málaga and the eighth among Andalusia. Additionally, it is one of the most remarkable tourist cities of the Costa Del Sol and throughout most of the year is a center of international tourism attraction primarily because of its climate and its tourist infrastructure. Despite that it is less known, the city has notable archeological and a couple of museums and performance spaces and a cultural calendar with events varying from reggae to opera.
The town of Marbella, reaches back during the Roman times, a period from which profuse archeological antiquities are to be discovered; two towers and the castle walls testify towards the presence of the Arabs; and in the old center of the town, Our Lady’s Church, the Chief Magistrate’s House and St. John’s Hospital were all constructed subsequent to the Christian reconquest.
Nevertheless, it is for its outstanding sun and the sand holiday amenities that Marbella is exceptionally famous for: luxurious, immense beaches, natural areas of considerable interest which includes the Cabopino Dunes, or Las Chapas Pine Groves, pleasure harbors, golf courses, sports clubs and an extensive variation of of businesses to justify its reputation.
Seven kilometers from the heart of the town of Marbella is the densely populated district of San Pedro de Alcantara, situated at the boundaries of Marbella, and appeared as a result of the construction of the sugar refinery during the year 1860.
