Úbeda is a town situated in the city of Jaén, situated the country of Spain’s autonomous community of Andalusia. According to the latest population tally (2008), the town of Úbeda has 34,462 inhabitants. Further, this highly significant and populated town is located at the hills of the same name, a landscape of olive trees and cereal fields, in the province’s geographical center.

Recent archeological discoveries states a Pre-Roman settlement at the town of Úbeda. The Romans and subsequently, the Visigoths, inhabited the area as their settlement. This region turned into an important town specially during the conquest of the Muslims of the Iberia. It was refounded by Abd ar-Rahman II (822-852), who named the town as “Ubbadal-Al-Arab”. The town was a part of the area of Jaén. During this period, its territory stretched out to more than 35,000 hectares.
Úbeda became one of the most significant and influential towns in Al-Andalus attributable to its handicrafts and trade. Its walls were constructed during the year 852. King Alfonso VI as well as Alfonso VII attempted to conquer the town, with different degrees of success.
