BAILÉN
The town of Bailén is located in the northern region, where the natural crossing of roads connect the central and northern part of the Iberian Peninsula to the South and the East and West of Andalusia. It is located at approximately 343 m above sea level, and has 39 km distance from the city of Jaén. Currently, the town’s population is approximately 18,785, and the townspeople of Bailén are referred to as “Bailenenses”.
Bailén is a city which integrates new industries with the customary life that relies primarily on agriculture. The town of Bailén began from the Tartessian settlement, known as “Barrito”. The Phoenicians also referred to this town the same name as the Tartessian. “Balkol” was the name the Greeks called it, and the Romans referred to this town as “Baécula-Caecilla” or Baecula-Baetica. All these civilizations mainly worked on its gold, silver, lead and coper mines.
