JABUGO

The town of Jabugo is situated at the province of Huelva, Andalusia. As specified during the year 2008 census, the town’s number of inhabitants back then was 2,403. These inhabitants are called “Jabugueños’. The town extends from up to 25 square kilometers and has a density of 99.0 inhabitants for every square kilometer. It is located at a distance of 658 meters beyond sea level, and it takes 112 kilometers, if traveled from the provincial capital, Huelva.

Jabugo is made up of villages namely Jabugo, which is the main capital city, and El Repilado, Los Romeros, which is in fact the most significant villages of them all, and the Quejigo, which in fact smaller with lots of houses uninhabited, by the residence of many artists.

The town of Jabugo is one of the least captivating regions in Sierra, due to slaughterhouses and factories who often liter its outskirts. However, it is the perfect place to purchase its well-known cured ham, and other pork products which are mainly produced in this town.

For a lot of Spanish individuals, the town name Jabugo is a shorthand method of the full name “Jamón Ibérico” or pata negra, (so-called due to the Iberian pig’s unique black trotters). The first class and indeed the most expensive grade of cured ham is known as “Bellota”, which is a reference to the significant part of the pigs’ diet of acorns. Tourists are welcome to visit and see how these first class hams are made, they can visit the factory of the largest and most established jamón producer in the town of Jabugo, Sánchez, Romero Carvajal. In this particular factory, tourists can be certainly amazed on thousands of jamones hanging from the ceiling.

Near the main street where the Carvajal factory is situated, are numerous shops selling Iberian pork products and jamones. As a matter of fact, even the factory, Sánchez Romero Carvajal has its own bar and restaurant, be wary of the prices though.

From the main shopping street of Calle Barco leads directly towards the 18th century Iglesia De San Miguel, and a really exquisite square.
