Lanjaron’s perfect water is regularly extracted from the town’s subsoil and then later supplied throughout the country. With regard to their thermal waters, these waters have been recognized and celebrated for countless of years attributable to their healing properties, and are also known to be some of the best in Spain. Lajarón’s high quality of medicinal water was able to provide the town with a long history as a health spa. The town of Lajarón offers the quintessential attributes that defines the inhabitants of Alpujarra: an example of this, the native’s house’s distinct architecture, which is remarkably suited to the irregular terrain and the region’s climate. The town’s medicinal qualities were not discovered up until the late 18th century, and its commercial operation did not begin until the end of 19th century by the Duchess of Santona, Motrill, with her interests in Lanjarón. The town of Lajarón is dominated by a rocky outcrop, crowned by the ruins of a Moorish castle. According to some legend, the Moorish ruler of Lajarón, chose not to surrender to the Catholic Monarchs, instead, he threw himself from the castle tower upon realizing that the Christian army led by Catholic King Fernando was going to be victorious. La Alpujarra is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lanjarón. Granada Alpujarra features its magnificent landscape, along with the almond trees, crops and vineyards grown on terraces. Attributable to the jagged terrain, the towns have already adjusted to the irregular land, and that was the reason as to why they are constructed spaced out and facing south. This is so that they can take advantage of the gentle Mediterranean climate. The rough and winding streets are excellent to go for a stroll, breathing in the peacefulness and the tranquility of the town. The town of Lajarón’s most remarkable monuments are the 16th century Mudejar style parish church and the remains of the remains of the Moorish castle.
